Summer may be far behind us, but we HAVE to share with you this AWESOME 40th birthday party that we organized for twin brothers Gregg & Tom! That's because this party was nothing like the ones we've planned before!
Meghan and her sister-in-law, Melanie, had told us that their husbands are both highly competitive. For as long as the twins can remember, they have been racing, battling, jostling and competing against each other every step of the way. They were interested in having a birthday party where they would compete against each other to determine who is the strongest, most skilled twin of all! This gave us the idea of throwing a car-racing themed party with a dash of blue and silver, which are the colours of Gregg's & Tom's sport cars - Dodge Vipers!
The centerpiece of the sweet table was setup like a podium.
The cake and cupcakes were made by Melanie's talented friend, Anne-Renée. We asked her to have Gregg's and Tom's faces printed on the cupcake toppers so that we can scatter them on the podium.
On the invitation that we designed and sent out, we asked the guests to bring a memento that reminds them of their time spent with Gregg & Tom. We setup a table with a time capsule so that people could write a note or a fond memory and drop an item from their past into the capsule for the twin brothers to open in a few years down the road.
The guests were quite creative! We wonder what's the story behind this sombrero...
Meghan and Melanie also told us that both Gregg & Tom enjoy the outdoors. With that in mind, we decided to have the party in Gregg's and Meghan's backyard during which easily accommodated the 60 guests comfortably. We set up four different games for the twins to compete in:
- Sumo Wrestling
- Giant Jenga
- Bean Bag Toss
- Horseshoe Toss
We wanted to do something special for Gregg and Tom, so Sophie and I had the idea of making a custom bean bag toss game for the twins! We asked them to come up with a name for each hole and as you can see in the below photo, they definitely ran with this idea! The names were derived from inside jokes shared between the brothers and friends. Sophie and I shared a good laugh when we first read the words! You can tell the twin brothers have a great sense of humour!
To get the guests involved, we had them show their support by selecting their "favourite twin", the one they think will win the grand prize at the end of the night. We created custom reusable Solo cups in the colour of the twin brother's sport car: Blue for Gregg and Silver/Black for Tom. These also doubled as a little party favour / thank you! Guests were also encouraged to participate in the games to help their favourite twin accumulate as many points as possible.
The bar was setup outside and definitely became the Hot Spot!
We made this menu so that the guests knew exaclty what was being served at the bar. Beer and wine choices were displayed on the bar as well to help guests choose.
Gregg and Tom kicked the party off with a sumo fight which got everyone laughing and kept the crowd highly entertained!
The delicious food was catered by Robert Alexis. The guests raved about the quality and taste - there were options to satisfy everyone!
Meghan rolled up her sleeves to make two awesome homemade trophies (all by herself!) using different items representing the twins and the games they played. What a creative woman!
Can you guess who won the grand prize? That's not an easy question because you sometimes can't tell these two brothers apart! So... we'll reveal it to you.
Tom was the winner and he was awarded an awesome trophy!
We had a lot of fun planning and organizing the twins' 40th birthday party. It was also wonderful working with Meghan and Melanie who gave us the "checkered flag" ;) to come up with ideas for decor and games. We love working with clients who are not afraid to do things differently and have a great sense of humour along the way!
Next stop - 50!!! ;)
