Rachel and I have known each other for over twenty-five years. Wow!!! Putting that into writing just made me realize how long we have been friends for. She is a wonderful friend and human being - beautiful, quirky, creative, funny and an all round great person to have on your side!
For my wedding, she put together this incredible and emotional video of mine and my husband's families. It showed old photographs of our parents getting married, pictures and videos of us as kids. It was a beautiful representation of how two families were becoming one. Many often speak of that video and as I near my 5 year anniversary with my husband, it is still to this day, one of my fondest memories of my wedding. Ok, enough about me...I am getting to the point, I promise!
Fast forward to today. I am now being given that same opportunity - one to show Rachel just how much I love her and how much her friendship means to me. I helped plan and decorate her bachelorette party (we will spare you the details of that one!) and gladly jumped at the opportunity to help plan and decorate her bridal shower.
Rachel's engagement ring is a beautiful sapphire which we knew she adores. I wanted to incorporate that with a hint of lavender! It isn't often that a bride is marrying a man with the last name Lavender!
The blue & lavender color combination wasn't something that Anna and I were used to, but we were both excited to take on the challenge!
After several weeks of planning and preparation with her Mum - Angie, and great friend Andrea, the shower turned out better than we could have imagined! We were all so thrilled with the final result.
There was a lot of food at the party! ...and those little decorative mice were adorable!
...and a mimosa bar!
The eye-catching cake with a touch of lavender inspired us to create a simple setup on the table where we put the tableware for the dessert and the party favors for the guests.
Oh and by the way, the cake was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S and really pretty inside! We loved the purple ombré effect and so did the guests. ;)
Since it was a bridal shower, we obviously showered Rachel with many gifts! She received some really beautiful & thoughtful gifts for her new home. Here are a few that come to mind...a handmade birdhouse, a beautiful bird bath and a lovely basket filled with everything lavender (sprays and cleaning products, lavender colored napkins and tea towels as well as a pair of lavender colored rubber gloves adorned with a sapphire mood ring)!
The 3rd Musketeer to mine and Rachel's friendship is Mary and together, she and I created a Bridal Advent Calendar for Rachel. 100% DIY :)
1 gift to open every day until her BIG day! Start date is August 1st and we can't wait for her to begin!
To make sure that Rachel won't forget her blue lavender bridal shower, we invited the guests to leave their thumb prints on a white cardboard to create lavender flowers instead of having them sign their name in a normal guestbook.
Now it's just a matter of weeks before Rachel finally ties the knot to Peter and becomes... Mrs. Lavender! :D
